Overview
The Beaver Valley Water System provides water treatment, supply, distribution and fire protection to the Village of Fruitvale and a portion of Electoral Area ‘A’ (Rural Fruitvale). (The Village of Fruitvale runs the system but RDKB owns it)

The system receives direct water supply from Kelly Creek and when required, two back-up chlorinated wells.  Water is treated at the Treatment Plant via sand filtration and ultra violet system with minimal chlorine added to the water.  

The RDKB Utilities Committee meets once a month in order to make decisions with respect to management of the water service and plan to ensure our water needs are sustainable for the future.

Christina Lake Water Utility [Area C] The Christina Lake Water Utility is owned and operated by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB). The Water Utility has approximately 467 service connections that service approximately 1430 year round residents. There are about 23 water service connections to commercial operations.

In 2017, the RDKB assumed ownership and operation of the Water Utility from the Christina Waterworks District (CWD). The current system is actually composed of two systems which were initially separate. The Moody Creek system was established in 1946 and fed the lower town site, while the Wolverton System (initiation date unknown) fed the upper town site. The Wolverton system was originally fed from nearby surface water source. In 1989, the two systems were joined and the Wolverton source was decommissioned. Water for the Water Utility is supplied solely from Christina Lake.

The Water Utility provides water supply for fire protection to the Christina Lake Fire Department for the area within the Water Utility service area.

The Columbia Gardens Industrial Park encompasses approximately 58 acres of land and is located in the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB), Electoral Area ‘A’, southeast of the City of Trail. Currently, the Industrial Park’s Water System, which is owned and operated by the RDKB, provides potable water to approximately 15 tenants of the industrial park, including businesses related to commercial/industrial recycling activities, metallurgy operations and general light industry.

In 2009/2010, through Gas Tax and federal grant funds, the RDKB completed a major upgrade to the water system that included the following items:

•    A new 3.0 Million litre water reservoir, Drilling and commissioning of a secondary water supply well of a new deep well
•    Upgrades to the current Pump Station
•    Two deep wells and Pump House,
•    New dedicated water supply and distribution mains (allowing for sufficient water flows for fire protection and future expansion of industrial activities in the Columbia Gardens)

With the above improvements, the Columbia Gardens Industrial Park is now able to attract new industry opportunities to the region.

The Rivervale Water System currently supplies drinking water to approximately 120 parcels, consisting of about 115 residential properties, and 5 light industrial lots within the unincorporated area of Rivervale (Electoral Area ‘B’).

The original Rivervale Water System was constructed in the early 1950’s, with its primary source of supply being an intake constructed on Hanna Creek.  Additional supply sources were obtained from Dean/Durkin and McNally Springs in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Those springs were utilized until the late 1990’s.  In 2003, two new wells were drilled in the vicinity of the Hanna Creek infrastructure.

In 2011, the water service transitioned from an Improvement District to an RDKB Local Service Area.  Since that time, the RDKB has completed significant upgrades to the system, including SCADA control improvements, treatment building security / electrical upgrades, and recently, the installation of an Online Filtration System to meet current IHA Drinking Water Objectives.

Water Quality Notices

Since 2011, the RDKB provides daily water treatment plant operational activities and services for the Village of Warfield via an inter-municipal contract agreement. Further information with respect to the Village of Warfield’s Water system can be obtained by contacting the Village of Warfield.
